Step-by-step guide for teens (Ages between 15 1/2 and 17 1/2) to complete California drivers education.
Start by enrolling in a DMV approved driving course.

Receive the DL400C DMV certificate.
Next, apply for a provisional permit by taking the DL400C certificate to a local DMV and passing the written exam.
You must be at least 15 Β½ but under 18 years of age, complete the application form DL 44, and have your parentsβ or guardiansβ signatures on the application form. Additionally, provide your social security number, which will be verified with the Social Security Administration while you are in the office. You'll also need to verify your birth date and legal presence, pay the application fee, and pass a vision exam.
Moreover, you will need to pass a traffic laws and sign test, which consists of 46 questions. A passing score requires at least 39 correct answers, and you have three chances to pass. If you fail, you must wait 7 days before retaking the test.
For the DMV learners permit exam, you will need the DL400C certificate and a birth date/legal presence document.
Note: The DL 44 application is not available online; you must obtain it at a DMV.

To take the driving test, you must be at least 16 years old and have held your permit for at least 6 months. You will need to bring the OL238 certificate, your learners permit, a car for the test, and proof of insurance.
